Mount Dhaulagiri (धौलागिरी, dhaulāgirī)
This work was exhibited in the Magnum Photography Exhibition, capturing the grandeur of Dhaulagiri and the overwhelming scale of its natural landscape. It seeks to portray the mountain’s terrain, light, and the fleeting moments created by its environment, expressing the sense of time and space inherent in nature. The photograph shown here was taken by a Sherpa who accompanied the artist during the expedition, capturing the moment when the artist collapsed while descending from Dhaulagiri.

The water continuously flowing down the model’s face symbolizes desire, while the model’s expression as they endure it represents the cleansing act of makeup and the endurance it requires. Together, they embody the price of beauty and the relative suffering associated with contemporary ideals of beauty. This project, created in collaboration with a cosmetics brand under the theme of “Cosmetics Desire,” seeks to present an expanded interpretation of the aesthetic meaning inherent in the act of applying makeup.

Dust rising from the street meets the light, while the glow from the shops colors the night. Between them, a flower vendor walks slowly through the scene. Amid the vibrant cityscape, what is it that first captures our attention? Is it the flowers, the person, or the street that weaves them together into a single moment? In the end, perhaps what we are truly looking at is not the subject itself, but the perspective that chose to preserve that moment.

Photography Forest Dreaming
I once stayed in Yufuin, Oita Prefecture, Japan, for a period of rest. As the sun was setting, I wandered through the forest across from my lodging, and the moment I looked up at the sky, I felt both the fear and the curiosity held within the deep woods. Although the presence never revealed itself, it approached only through the air brushing against my skin and the faint traces that lingered beyond my sight. I came to remember it not with my eyes, but through my senses.
